Creating the new you

When we come to a transition in life
we are faced with an exciting opportunity to
redefine ourselves.

Panel 1

Personal meaning as a way of life

Sometimes deep within ourselves we find that we are not satisfied. This can often be from following someone else’s values in life or ones society embraces. Having a meaningful life is the key to happiness. Through therapy Wendy can help you get in touch with your own personal values to create a life that is more fulfilling for you. Using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) Wendy can facilitate moving from living according to other people’s values to living in sync with your own.

Wendy has practiced psychotherapy for nearly two decades and creates a space that is inviting, warm and attentive to your specific hopes and potential barriers to change.

Above all, she sees the therapeutic relationship as the key to helping you find the life you are seeking.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Wendy has provided individual therapy to people experiencing PTSD for 14 years. At Veterans Medical Research Foundation she was a therapist in multiple NIH-funded research studies comparing various interventions for PTSD. She is an expert in several evidence-based interventions including: Prolonged Exposure therapy (PE), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC), Mantram Repetition, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

Panel 3

Solace

The past two years have arguably been the most difficult in this lifetime for many. Mantram repetition, Mindful Self Compassion, and Mindful Meditation are all methods to calm the mind and body.

Wendy has been teaching a technique called Mantram repetition for over 18 years. This was brought to the United States by Sri Eknath Easwaran in the 60’s. A mantram is a spiritual word or phrase that has been used in this way for generations to bring peace. Mantram repetition is silent and therefore private, allowing one to use it in many life circumstances bringing calm and solace.

Mindful Self Compassion helps one bring the compassion felt for others to oneself. By recognizing suffering within, one can bring warmth and understanding to this experience rather than judgement and condemnation. Often people are more harsh with themselves than they would be with a friend. These internal messages can deplete energy and reinforce a negative self concept. Wendy was trained at the Center for Mindful Self Compassion as a MSC teacher and would love to guide you to be more kind with yourself.

Mindfulness meditation is used regularly within Wendy’s practice to help people cope with stress and anxiety. Many scientific studies have indicated mindfulness meditation benefits depression, anxiety, fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome, psoriasis, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. In this time of excessive stress mindfulness meditation can provide a break to replenish.

Fees / Good Faith Estimate for Cash-Pay or Uninsured Clients Notification

Individual therapy is a dynamic process, and has many variables. Most clients are seen between eight and 30 sessions, and insurance can affect the final amount you owe (if any) in terms of co-pays, deductibles, and contracted rates. I follow the contracted procedures for all insurances that I accept. The following are my current cash-pay rates.

  • $240 for an initial intake session / $200 per hour (and $150 for each additional 1/2-hour) thereafter for as many sessions as mutually-agreed upon.

If you are Cash-Pay or Uninsured:

  • You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost.
  • Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.
  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.
  • You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.
  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
  • For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit: www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
